Project Crochet Pre-Show

People who know me well are always surprised when they find out that I enjoy the show Project Runway. As someone who always wears black bottoms and solid coloured t-shirts, I’m not exactly a fashionista. Why, then, do I like the show? It’s crafty (the “unusual materials” episode is always a treat!), and I like seeing the designers rise to each challenge.

Recently I was re-watching season 10 and got to thinking that it would be really cool to have a crochet version of the show. Though, crocheting a large item can take so much longer than the standard reality show can devote. Not every designer can be on Project Runway, but I’m sure some like to play along at home.

So, what I’m planning to do for a large part of 2013 is something of a personal challenge. Every month I’m going to propose a challenge and see what I can do with it. I thought others might like to play along too, so I will, of course, be blogging it!

Challenges will involve things like working with particular yarns, or with particular techniques. If you’re playing along at home and find a challenge doesn’t suit you, feel free to reject my idea and substitute your own.

This is a work in progress, so please feel free to suggest ideas for challenges! And let me know in the comments if you are playing along – I would love to follow your progress (that’s half the fun of the show, after all!)

The goals are education, innovation, and exploration. Let’s make it work!

  1. Hmmmm… I don’t watch Project Runway (I have the most basic of cable packages), but I’m willing to give it a shot! I can’t promise that I’ll do every challenge, but I’ll see how it goes. I know that the Craftster Scavenger Hunt Motif swaps have helped me to try new techniques in crochet, so this might help me expand my repertoire even more!
